About the project
Implemented on the Greek islands of Sifnos, Serifos and Kythnos, as well as in Asgata, Cyprus, the project builds upon and
further capitalises on the achievements of the recently completed Interreg Greece–Cyprus V-A project “METAL PLACES.” Its main aim is to deliver a new generation of actions for the protection, interpretation, promotion and public showcasing of the
mining and metallurgical cultural heritage of the selected areas, while establishing a coherent, sustainable and effective
framework for its long-term safeguarding and visibility.
In parallel, the project contributes to the development of alternative and experience-based forms of tourism, enabling visitors
to engage more directly and meaningfully with the cultural, technological and historical heritage of these regions.
Main Project Actions
– Development of digital educational tools and applications, alongside the organisation of seminars, summer schools and thematic guided tours.
– Systematic recording, documentation and promotion of mineral-bearing areas in Sifnos, Serifos, Kythnos and
Kalavasos–Asgata.
– Establishment of a Centre for the Promotion of Recent Geo-Mining and Metallurgical Heritage in Kamares, Sifnos.
– Development of 360° virtual tour applications and Virtual Reality (VR) experiences, featuring interpretive reconstructions of mining and metallurgical activity.
